Criss-Cross Welsh Blanket
Criss-Cross Welsh Blanket
The Brand: Melin Tregwynt, a small white washed woolen mill, can be found in a remote wooded valley on the Pembrokeshire (Wales) coast. There has been a mill on this site since the 17th century, when local farmers would bring their fleeces to be spun into yarn and woven into sturdy Welsh wool blankets. Owned by the same family since 1912, the Mill became an Employee Owned Trust in 2022, and the staff of 40+ now continue to make unique designs using traditional techniques. Each design, made in Welsh wool, is done on the computer and then made by hand in a small sample to confirm colors and details before it is run on the larger weaving machines. From there it is handcut, handsewn and then goes out the door. Each step of the process is looked after by a talented staff of pattern-makers, weavers, seamstresses who take great care in all they do.
Description: This design is a historic pattern inspired by early 18th century Shaker weaves. It was originally designed in the 1980’s in more traditional colors. Now, it is available in more contemporary color ways. We love how Melin Tregwynt blankets are edged simply so you can display either side. It’s so charming to have two blankets in one!
Details: 50 x 78 inches, 100% welsh wool, medium weight, soft, reversible pattern
A Note From Erika: What I love is that this is a traditional pattern but they have done it in more contemporary colors. The chosen colors really transform it and bring it alive.
